Vestibular physiotherapy is a specialized type of therapy that focuses on treating disorders related to the vestibular system, which is responsible for maintaining balance and spatial orientation through signals to the brain. When these signals are thrown off, we get symptoms of dizziness and feeling off balance. During the assessment we look at the different systems that are likely to cause dizziness and rule out any sinister causes that may require further referral. Infrared video goggles are utilized to assist in accurate assessment of the oculomotor system which can help identify the cause of the dizzy symptoms. From the assessment, appropriate treatment and home exercises will be outlined to help resolve symptoms.

James Rowan

MPT, Level 3 Upper and Lower Quadrants Certification of the Canadian Physiotherapies Orthopaedic Division; Chan Gunn Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS); Intermediate Clinical Pilates

I began my post-secondary education at UBC where I obtained my Bachelors in Human Kinetics with a focus on exercise science. I completed a Masters degree in physiotherapy in 2008 from the University of Alberta, and have completed a number of post-graduate physiotherapy courses.

I specialize in manual therapy, orthopaedics, workplace health, and sports injuries. I have worked in private practice clinics for most entire career. Although I have worked predominantly in the Vancouver area before arriving in Lethbridge, my career took me to London, England. My position in London was unique as I was treating staff members on-site at two large hospitals and at Harrods Department store. As part of this job, I performed job site evaluations, ergonomic assessments, and assessed and treated staff members.

When I am not working, I enjoy running, skiing, traveling and spending time with my wife and two young daughters.

I am originally from London, England where I completed my Masters of Physiotherapy at Brunel University. For both my undergrad and masters degree I competed on the field lacrosse university teams. I have obtained my Level III Pelvic Health certifications and am keen to put them to use and provide such an important offering to our community! I currently work full time in outpatient orthopaedics and hand therapy at the hospital, and will be working select evenings here at Waso, exclusively offering pelvic health physiotherapy so if you are experiencing any pelvic health concerns please don’t hesitate to give our clinic a call or check out our online booking to get a pelvic floor assessment!

Outside of work, I enjoy skiing, hiking with my dog and Shane, and am a self-proclaimed foodie!

Brittni Steeves

MScPT; Certified to treat internal Pelvic Floor Level III; Level II Upper and Lower Quadrant Certification of the Canadian Physiotherapies Orthopaedic Division; Functional Dry Needling (FDN)

I was born and raised in a small town in Manitoba. As an only child to a mother who valued physical literacy, I had the privilege to participate in a variety of team and individual sports, which sparked my love for movement and activity. I was always fascinated by the resiliency and strength of the human body and from an early age knew I wanted to pursue a career in rehabilitation. I moved to Alberta after high school and completed my bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology at the University of Lethbridge. Following my graduation, I moved back to Manitoba to complete my Master’s degree in Physical Therapy from the UofM.

Missing the mountains, I made the permanent move to Lethbridge and have been practicing physiotherapy here ever since. I took a special interest in women’s health and completed my pelvic floor certifications in 2021. I am constantly striving to add to my education to better help those in my care. I have always taken a full body approach to treatment, no matter the age or ability of the patient, but at the end of the day following the motto that “movement is medicine”.

When I am not working you can find me with a fantasy book in my hand, out for a run, or hanging with my dog Milo!

Stephanie Honess

MScPT, Level III Upper and Lower Quadrant Manual Therapy Certification through the Orthopedic Division; Biomedical Dry Needling (BDN); Intermediate Clinical Pilates

Growing up in a small town (Enchant, Alberta) groomed me for a life filled with sports- baseball, basketball, badminton, dance, volleyball and the list goes on! I was always active, and enjoyed being outdoors, and because of that ended up needing a lot of physical therapy in the process. Volleyball ended up being the sport I pursued, and was fortunate to compete at the provincial, national, and eventually collegiate level at the University of Calgary where I obtained my Bachelor’s degree. I have been working as a physiotherapist in Lethbridge since I graduated from University of Alberta with a Master’s in Physiotherapy in the fall of 2015, and have since completed many other postgraduate certifications including manual therapy and dry needling. These days my interests include hiking, biking, running, lifting weights, and spending time with my husband, daughter and extended family.

I consider my treatment to be exercise and movement focused, with a strong manual therapy component to help you reach your movement goals. Although I do have a special interest in the athletic population, anyone that is motivated to reach their movement and fitness goals are my specialty.
